The Woodville palace has a history dating back to 1865 when Sir William Mansfield, Commander in Chief of the Imperial Army became the first resident of the charming estate. The palace was reconstructed in 1938 by the Rana of Jubbal when hundreds of expert artisans were brought from far and wide to ensure the highest quality of craftsmanship. Kanwar Udai Singh opened a part of the mansion as a guest house in 1977.

Getting There

Air : The airport is at Jubbarhatti, 23 km from Shimla town, and is connected to Chandigarh, Kullu and Delhi.

Rail : Shimla is connected by a broad gauge line up to Kalka. From Kalka to Shimla, a narrow gauge line covers 96 km of track. The journey by train, which takes about six hours, is one of the finest ways of enjoying the landscape. The delightful rail-car, which runs on this stretch, takes about four hours.

Road : Shimla is connected by road to all major centres of north India. HRTC (Himachal Road Transport Corporation) runs regular and Non A/C deluxe coaches to all major centres in the state. State road corporations ply on the Delhi – Shimla route During the summers, the Himachal Pradesh Tourism Development Corporation runs deluxe services.
